A Ray of Hope: Recent Court Decisions Bring Some Hemp Products Back to Ohio

If you've visited The Joynt over the past few months, you've probably noticed some major changes to our product selection.

When Ohio's SB56 law took effect, many hemp-derived products that had been available throughout the state were suddenly removed from store shelves. Like countless small businesses across Ohio, we were forced to adapt quickly and say goodbye to products that many of our customers had come to enjoy.

Today, we're excited to share some encouraging news.

A Significant Court Ruling

In a recent lawsuit filed by Cycling Frog (North Fork Distribution), an Ohio judge issued a preliminary injunction that prevents enforcement of certain portions of SB56 against Cycling Frog's qualifying hemp products while the case continues through the court system.

The Ohio Attorney General appealed that decision and requested that the injunction be paused. However, the court recently declined to stay the injunction, allowing the ruling to remain in effect during the appeal process.

While this is not a final decision on the overall legality of hemp products in Ohio, it represents an important development in the ongoing legal conversation surrounding hemp-derived products and interstate commerce.

What Does This Mean?

At this time, the ruling applies specifically to qualifying products associated with the plaintiff in the lawsuit.

In practical terms, this means that some Cycling Frog products are once again finding their way onto store shelves in Ohio, including here at The Joynt.

It does not mean that all hemp products have returned to the market, nor does it mean that all products previously available before SB56 can be sold today.

The legal landscape continues to evolve, and additional court cases are still working their way through the system.

Why This Matters

For small businesses, local retailers, and consumers, these cases are about more than just products.

They raise important questions about:

  • Consumer choice

  • Interstate commerce

  • Product regulation

  • Small business opportunity

  • Access to federally compliant hemp products

The courts are now beginning to weigh in on these issues, and the outcomes could have lasting effects on Ohio's hemp marketplace.

The Joynt's Approach

At The Joynt, our goal has always been simple:

Provide quality products, follow the law, support our community, and stay informed as regulations change.

As new developments emerge, we'll continue monitoring the legal landscape and evaluating products that can be offered responsibly and legally to our customers.

For now, we're excited to welcome some familiar faces back to our shelves and to share this small but meaningful step forward with our customers.

Looking Ahead

The legal battle surrounding hemp products in Ohio is far from over. Appeals are ongoing, additional lawsuits are pending, and new developments continue to emerge.

But for the first time in a long while, there appears to be a little momentum moving in a positive direction.

We'll continue to keep our customers informed as new information becomes available.

As always, thank you for supporting local businesses and for supporting The Joynt.

Stay weird, Yellow Springs. 💚
